The Breakthrough Prize was designed to reward outstanding breakthroughs and achievements and to inspire the next generation. The 2019 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences was awarded to 4 outstanding scientists. Bennett and Krainer were awarded for developing a new drug for SMA which can reduce infant death. Angelika Amon was awarded for providing new insights into cancer cells and abnormal chromosome numbers. Xiaowei Zhuang was awarded for developing the new imaging tool – STORM. Dr. Chen was awarded for this research in immune checkpoint blockage therapy. These amazing scientists have help further medical research and advanced forward in the life sciences industry.
